It was a very bright and sunny day as Da Goresta Gougaz travelled to meet the Jed Eye team. The rookie squad had less depth in their squad, so managed to persuade Ugroth Boltrot to join them.
Electing to kick first, the Orcs lined up ready to punch some rats, and it wasn't long before the chainsaw was heard revving up and Ugroth suffered a kickback on his chainsaw, but only glanced it off his armour.
The Skaven secured a cage of Gutter Runners, supported by their thrower, and waited for the Orcs to approach, but there seemed to be a stalemate as the Gougaz refused to step up, for fear of leaving a whole for the Runners to sneak through.
The linerats were putting their lives on the line, as Ugroth started attacking them, knocking out one then another, before being spotted by the ref as he fouled a blitzer, and despite the extra purse he brought with him to pay off the umpire, he was sent to the sin bin and dismissed from the game.
Sensing a drop in numbers, and having had their clawed blitzer taken to the apothecary, the Gutter Runners all piled to the opposite side of the pitch, in an attempt to outflank the Orcs, who attempted to form a tackle box gauntlet. They were not expecting the ball carrier to start punching his way through Orcs as he stunned a blitzer before scampering away. A last ditch attempt to stop him scoring led him to side-step closer to the end zone, and earn the first score.
The Orcs made an attempt to make the best use of their drive, but they would go in at half-time one score down. Coming out for the second half saw the Goblin make it on to the field, but a deep kick meant that the ball was retrieved a cage formed deep in the Orc half.
The remaining blitzer and the Gutter Runner on steroids charged past the line of scrimmage in an attempt to distract and hold up the cage, but the ball was moved around them, and a very Orc-heavy cage was formed. The ball carrier was very surprised to then see a rat leap over the cage and punch him with very little strength, which he easily shrugged off, then the rat slipped out of the cage without anyone laying so much as a finger on him.
The cage trundled on, when the Gutter Runner, once again, leapt toward the ball carrier in an attempt to knock the ball free, then once again ran away, unsuccessful. By now, the Gougaz were getting very nervous that they might lose the ball after repeatedly having their cage ignored by this cheeky rat, and after a quick hand-off, ran in the equaliser.
As the teams reset, the sun relaxed it's gaze, and the Orcs began to worry that the ball might now start being thrown around. This worry increased as the kick dropped straight into the hands of a Gutter Runner, who started looking for gaps in the Orc line.
By this point, the Troll was getting bored that he wasn't hitting enough people, and smashed the armour of the Jed Eye number 13.
It wasn't long when the Runners got together and formed a plan. A pass from the previous scorer to the leaping rat resulted in a bold attempt to outpace the Orcs. He jumped past the 2 players who tried to grab him, and after landing safely, he sprinted as hard as he could, knowing he would not have any backup for protection.
The endurance Runner noticed the tackling Orc was within range to make a play for the ball, and dodged his way through 3 tackles to square up with the Orc Blitzer. This proved to be the play of the game, as the Blitzer was unable to dodge away, and was tackled by the Gutter Runner, leaving the leaping rat free to take the lead again.
With 1 turn left to attempt to score again, the Goblin lined up next to the Troll, ready to be thrown toward the endzone, but it was not to be, as a very strong kick sent the ball to the Orc endzone, beyond the range of collection.
Knowing that the ball would lay there, the Skaven did not dare risk life and limb in an attempt to get the ball, and after an attempt at knocking out the Goblin, they were relieved to suffer so few casualties, whilst picking up their first win of the season.
